Design Challenge
  • Integration with the acoustic architecture

  • Variable performance layouts
Chamber concerts, professional recordings, rehearsals, lectures and multimedia events use different performer and audience arrangements, making a fixed lighting layout insufficient.

  • Performer and music-score illumination
The system must provide adequate vertical illumination and score-reading light while controlling incident angles to reduce glare from paper, polished instruments and performers’ sightlines.

  • Professional recording and camera requirements

  • Visual comfort at close viewing distances

  • Compatibility between white and coloured light

  • Minimal visual interference from equipment

Product Solution
  • Architecturally integrated linear indirect lighting

  • Independent functional and atmospheric layers

  • Adjustable accent-lighting points
Compact aimable luminaires are positioned between the acoustic elements to illuminate performers, music stands and defined stage areas. Adjustable aiming supports changing seating layouts and ensemble sizes without duplicating fixed fixtures.

  • Precise beam and shielding control

  • Camera-compatible white light
Functional lighting should combine high colour rendering, tight colour consistency and low flicker to reproduce skin tones, wooden instruments and interior finishes accurately across different cameras and shutter settings.

  • Low-noise dimming and control architecture

  • Programmable scene management

Berlin

Tonhain is a hybrid chamber music venue and professional recording studio in Berlin, designed for concerts, recordings, rehearsals, masterclasses and multimedia events. The lighting system must support performers, score reading, audience comfort and camera recording without interfering with the acoustic ceiling, audio equipment or sightlines. Integrated linear illumination and adjustable accent lighting allow the ceiling geometry, performance area and ambient atmosphere to be controlled as separate lighting layers.
